Wakie wakie, cheeky monkeys!

Day 15: Nice To Lyon

Friday, June 7, 2002

French park wherever they feel like. We had to move (or "bounce") them out of the way. Cop didn't help with the move, just wrote up a ticket.

What should I be doing? Wait, wait, wait, maybe if... I think... Come on, just help me push.

We have another group... Went to Fragonard in Grasse to get high on perfume and cologne. Sold brand names without the names.

Part of the group went to McDonald's instead.

Instead of the usual "wakie wakie," Kyle used Aqua's "Happy Boys and Girls" to wake us up. Kyle said something about antipope and skanky.

Stopped at Avignon for lunch of Jambon Fromage Chavignon Crepe and Douer Kebab with Lebanese sauce.

During lunch, realized I only had 30 minutes left for touring Avignon. Saw and ran through the Palace of the Popes in 15 minutes.

Saw and ran through Pont Saint-Benezet and finished in 10 minutes.

Ran to the bus. Panted hard. Others asked me what happened then laughed. Oh well. I can now cross off Avignon from my "to visit" list.

After playing Divinyl’s “I Touch Myself,” Kyle gave another quiz. Many didn’t do too well (I guess we didn’t pay enough attention), but for the few that did do well, they did extremely well (must be that back seat help). Jen won a pink elephant t-shirt and a bottle of wine. As our bus made a u-turn, we saw one of those high speed trains. Kyle said that like planes, these trains undergo window testing to ensure they don’t break if something hits them. The French fired chickens into the windshield, and the windows didn’t do so well, even though it worked for the people at Boeing. Apparently, the French were using frozen chicken. Duh.
After checking in to hotel that left us some food in our room, my roommate and I explored the streets of Lyon.

Come on, Derek wants a picture... I've never speak this much English. In Canada, I speak French. I don't like this picture. My eyes look funny. I'm right here. For dinner, we all had Kyle's recommended Salad Lyonnaise. Dale, Brad, and Steph ordered the sausage, and Darcy and I ordered the “crispy sausage." They had a rum cake (you can taste the alcohol), and I had the pear in sauce (or soup).

Joked about the letter V (for Victory!) and discussed tour views (of favorite places!).

Mike, Garrett, JessicaX2, Amy, Jennifer and I wanted to take funicular to top for great view of Lyon.

That guy wanted directions from us? I can't believe we made it. This one's going in the diary. Dawg! This picture and event are going to make it to my web site. Had trouble communicating. Had trouble getting change. Had trouble giving backpacker directions (blind leading blind). Couldn't get to viewpoint. Worried about station closing. Had trouble finding the right tracks to get back down. We had great fun!
Saw man handcuffed. Saw police wrestle him into car. Some of us sang a song for him.

I'm innocent! I'm innocent! Busted!

Steph and Bruna went to McDonald's for French hamburgers. My roommate got a room list and started to dial numbers down the list by twin share rooms to find some people. It was late, and the first person that answered the phone was Sue. Whoops! Went to room 130 for Uno. Saw another sex show (on TV this time). Then went to Jen, Liz, and Julie's room for...
