ICE HOCKEY

- Smooth flat pass requires maximum follow thru.
- "Feather" the puck. Keep your stick on the ice in the follow thru.
- Aim the pass. - Look where you are passing. - See the target.
- Control the puck until it leaves the blade at the toe.
- Do not slap the pass - causes rolling or bouncing.
- Lead your receiver - keep it out of his feet.
- Your target is the receiver's blade or a little ahead.
- Do not make a "blind" pass.
- Do not make a backhand pass if you have time and room to pivot and feed pass off your forehand.
- Do not pass to a man who has an opponent between you and him.
- Do not "bat" the puck - no follow thru.
- Don't pass just to get rid of the puck - freeze it - reverse - or stickhandle farther.
- Use the "flip pass" whenever opponent's stick is in position to intercept or you need to clear the puck into center ice.
- The backhand pass is harder to make because of the tendency to "pull" or drag it back into teammate's feet.
- Pass ahead.
- Forget the back pass - too dangerous.
- On lead passes, float the puck ahead.
- Put yourself in position (without an opponent between yourself and passer) to receive the pass. Break at an angle and keep your stick on the ice as a target.
- When you make a lead pass, follow up as a trailer.
- Accept or receive all passes with both hands on the stick.
- Do not "fight" or jab at the puck as you receive it. - You will knock it away.
- Be sure you can complete the pass before releasing the puck. - Don't pass just to get rid of the puck.
