ICE HOCKEY
|
- Two (2) hands on stick at all times.
- Carry stick low - as close to ice as possible at all times.
- Head up - practice handling puck without looking at ice.
- Carry the puck about midway on blade.
- Protect the puck with your inside leg and thigh.
- Grip the stick rather tightly with plenty of weight on bottom hand.
- When you fake or feint dip your head and shoulder in direction of fake - make the fake slowly enough so opponent will react to it.
- Stay over the puck - do not stickhandle with puck too far out in front of you. - You do not have good control if opponent attacks your stick.
- For best control of puck turn or "toe" the blade in.
- Don't "muscle" the puck - Develop a touch.
- Don't carry the puck in too close to an opponent. You just give him a greater opportunity to poke-check or sweep check it away.
- When you try to skirt an opponent drive by pushing off outside leg - don't glide or coast.
- Don't dribble the puck anymore than necessary to control it.
- Stickhandle and skate straight ahead without arcing, looping or swaying until you have an opponent to beat.
